Allergy skin tests for foods and inhalants can be done in our office. The tests take about 20 to 30 minutes to perform, and are usually applied to the forearms or the back with minimal discomfort. The results will be given to you at the end of the test, and we will be able to determine if allergy immunotherapy may provide you relief from your symptoms.
Allergy blood testing is done by obtaining a blood sample from the patient and then analyzing it for specific antibodies to allergies. The testing can be done for those who cannot go off their allergy medications that may interfere with skin testing. Blood testing is also done in some circumstances where skin testing is inappropriate or results have been equivocal. It can take several weeks to obtain the results, once the blood test is obtained from the lab.
